A surprise engagement at Carmel at the beach

I realized I have I have a lot of updating to do on this site… where do I begin?  I wanted to showcase this shoot (before posting their wedding ) . This was one of my first shoots in Cali and at one of my favourite places, Carmel by the sea.  So the plan was this,  Berton was going to propose on the beach and I was going to hideout and capture it.. easy right?  Then when I got to Carmel, I had to make sure he knew where I was hiding without ruining the surprise was the big challenge. But we somehow managed to communicate and he figured out my location.  On that note, I have done a bunch of these surprise engagement captures but something about hiding behind a rock with a huge lens taking ninja snaps at the beach .. makes one feel a little creepy..haha

As you can see in the picture, Karen said yes! Woo hoo!  Afterwards we basically had a blast going around Carmel taking pics and ending off in San Fran.   Many thanks to my friends Berton and Karen for this and I’m pumped to put together some wedding pics to show you guys.

Nahid and Jay – The Family E-Session

Since my last post, we have been doing A LOT of travel for work both internationally and domestically. I have tons of cool shoots that I want to share.  Here’s the most recent lifestyle shoot of my friends Nahid and Jay.  Let me back track a bit.  I met Nahid and her wonderful son a few years back from a family shoot I did for them.  Loved the shoot and them… really good peoples. When she told me she was getting married this year and the details… I knew I wanted to shoot their wedding.   This was especially the case after I met Jay, these two are both such kind souls.  So I’m really happy I got to do this for my friends.

This was a fun shoot. I’m glad Nahid and Jay decided to get the boys involved…these kids are great.  We wandered around Steam Whistle brewery and worked our way around downtown before they all headed off to a special b day celebration up in the 360 restaurant at the CN Tower.  Thanks so much guys and here are some pics!

Grace and Eric. Toronto Zoo Engagement Session

Doing a shoot at the Zoo was a first for me and the space worked out pretty well and not for nothing, who doesn’t like animals?  Grace and Eric really love animals and are very knowledgeable about the Toronto Zoo itself.   I kind of wish I brought my little ones because I think these two would have been fantastic private tour guides...hehe…

I met Grace and Eric early in the morning and we started off hitting most of their favourite spots.  The background was gorgeous but the it was freezing that day...so we jumped in and out of buildings to keep warm. During the shoot I learned a great deal about various animals and other spots of the zoo that I haven’t been to before.  Shooting at the zoo was pretty tricky, a lot of high fences and shooting through glass. As more people came through, we had to be patient with the crowds and of course… the hope of getting some animals in the shot (google Kit Kat Panda commercial… that was me…haha)

To my friends Grace and Eric, thanks so much for a fun day and I am super excited to capture your big day next year. Thank you both so much and here are just a few pics from our shoot.

Engagement shoot at the cottage. Melissa & Dan

This was a great idea to have their engagement shoot at their family’s cottage.  I drove out to Gravenhurst to meet them.. and I had no idea what to expect.. I mean.. I figured we would have a dock and water. When the GPS told that “you have arrived” .. I was literally smack in the middle of what felt like forest.   Melissa figured out where I was and shortly after we headed to a dock and took a boat to their cottage.  What was nice was that I got to meet Dan’s mom.. who basically steered the boat the entire time we were shooting in the water – super sweet person.

Our goal was to work around their cottage, get Melissa and Dan on their boat and catch the sunset towards the end.  There were so many beautiful and unique spots to choose from, including the boat we used end.  The boat was something that had been in the family for awhile and carried sentimental value for Dan.  As for the couple,  working with Melissa and Dan… these guys are super entertaining to say the least.  For example, we had Dan at one point fall into the water (rescue mission) during the shoot…hehe but he’s mad cool.. and didn’t miss a beat as we continued shooting…I mean when he dried up of course.

I’m stoked that we get to capture your big day next year (our first wedding for 2017 season) and I want to sincerely thank you both for having us.  Here are some of your pics from our near end of summer shoot.  Thanks again!

An afternoon with Gemma.

It's always so nice to do these shoots for friends. I get to play catch up and in this case.. I finally get to meet this adorable addition to their family – Gemma.  There was a part of me when scheduling this shoot where I wanted to bring my daughter… As she LOVES dogs.. Especially since  her “friend” Buddy is a golden-doodle too.  I definitely have to schedule another time to meet up with these guys.

OK,Gemma rocks. She is so flipping cute and I can see how she brings everyone around her joy. We did this shoot in their gorgeous home and basically had a fun lifestyle session approach capturing their day to day activities with Gemma.

I want to thank our friends Sarah and Paul for gifting this shoot – super awesome of you guys. To my friends Andrea and Des, so great seeing you both and enjoyed hanging out.. Hope to see you guys soon…we still have to do lunch =)
