Our baby boy and his super heroes.

Aside from that fact that I’m so in love with my little guy and still can’t believe we have a family of 4 now… I really don’t know where to start this story.

Scared. I start off with that... and not for obvious reasons… let me rewind. We never thought that we would be blessed with the hope of having a second child…let alone actually even having one. It took us 5 years before we had our beautiful Alexis “Hope” Chai and you can imagine how insanely happy we were to hear about our baby boy.  So why scared? Well… Long and short…  my wife lost an insane amount of blood during the birth of our daughter and I nearly lost her.

So for the 9 months of Gigi’s pregnancy what I kept to myself was how petrified I was of losing my wife with the birth of our son.  So what happened 14 days ago? We headed to the hospital around 11:30pm and was told to go home as she was only dilated 3-4 centimeters and nurse’s joked around that.. Gi looked way too comfortable to be in labour.   We went home and one hour later... my wife was screaming at the top of her lungs about the insane amount of labour pains.  I quote the ambulance… “we didn’t have to look for your house number… we heard your house.”

The morning of May 11, 2016... was filled with many heroes.  Starting with the 911 dispatcher, who did such an amazing job calming the freaked out helpless husband… (when you hear the words…. I am going to guide you to deliver this baby…staying cool…is so tough) – I thank you so much.  To the paramedics that made it just in time to deliver my son safely and re-assuring me a million times that my wife and baby were doing great -  I thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

As my wife always says… it takes a village to raise a child… and I was so lucky that her mom was with us that night… to be there for Gigi and watch over our daughter (I don’t even want to imagine if I had to juggle her and my wife that night) – thank you for grandma for everything you do. I love you.  To my wife Gigi, my best friend, the love of my life and now one extra designation …my hero.  I owe you the world Gi.

Love, Leon

Fall Shoot & Play Date with the Kids

This family is our good friends and we totally love them and their adorable little girl.  So, it was a perfect plan that we booked the shoot nice and early and I brought Gi and Alexis with me so we could all hang out afterwards.  Their daughter is so adorable and I love seeing her.  Although I don’t get to see her enough vs. how much our baby girl gets to see our friend…after all Teresa is also my dentist and I bring her to the office with me all the time when I get work done.

Getting Fall colours with good weather is always a tricky combo in November but we totally lucked out. We kept things simple and used the area around their home which I think worked out.

As we’re approaching the Christmas holidays, our baby A can’t wait to see her friend C at one of our parties to have another play date. Thanks always guys and see you soon!

She’s going to be a big sister! Maternity & Family Shoot

I miss these guys a lot. Ironically enough, a few weeks before this shoot, we ran into each other at Whittamore farms during the pumpkin patch time, which was a nice surprise… as we got to intro our toddlers to each other.

Their daughter L is just so, so adorable.. and it’s not even because I have a daughter around the same age and related to the adorableness.. she’s just so sweet. We totally lucked out with the weather for a late November shoot.. which gave us a chance to head outside to do these pics.   We did our best to get in a few family portraits looking at the camera and what totally helped was a family walking their golden lab who helped get little L’s attention as I snapped away.

E&N, miss you guys and thanks so much for setting this shoot up. Not sure if baby number 2 is here yet, but wishing  you both a smooth and healthy delivery – congrats again.  When things settle in.. lets do our long awaited dim sum =)

This beautiful family

I’m lucky to be able to focus and hone my craft in different aspects of photography.  My number one questions I get asked all the time is what my favorite form of photography I like doing most?  Pretty hard question to answer… as each craft is so different and rewarding in its own way... but final answer would have to be family photography.  There’s nothing in this world that makes me more happier then capturing photos of my family and watching my daughter grow. With that being said, I have a lot of love for this family as I’ve been lucky enough to capture their life stages.

This shoot like the many other family lifestyle shoots I’ve been doing recently was all about an updated family picture in preparation for Christmas.  On the day of their shoot, the weather was like today… cold and wet.. so we decided to meet at their business… where we used the cool space inside.  To my friends S&B, I’m sincerely thankful for all the years of your support. You guys are wonderful parents and I always love seeing your amazing kids.  Thanks always!

Pumpkin Patch. Whittamore Farms Family Shoot

We totally lucked out on the crowd situation at Whittamore Farms that day.  I went a week before with my family and it was packed!   I love seeing this family / friends on a yearly as their kids are great and so much fun to shoot.  We started off at the big pumpkin patch area and I got a chance to just get a few pics of the kids alone (which is pretty rare).  The place is pretty entertaining with lots of activities and play areas, so we quickly worked through the spots that worked well for pics as the kids were probably itching to just play.

My friend J&S are great parents and always do their best to get these awesome pics. To my friends J&S, I’m so thankful for the years of support and for the fulfillment of capturing your amazing fam.  Here are some pics from our shoot.

Apple picking with the family. Berryview Farms

I don’t know if it’s because of the climate change over the years but I remember when we used to go apple picking as a kid…. I was all bundled up and it was always cold – borderline freezing.   This was a total 180… warm, bright and beautiful morning. no complaints.

E&J and their sons are good friends of both Gi and I so this shoot was also nice for me to hang out with them too.  We all met in B Town (Russell Peters represent!) where the apple picking farm was.  E&J are phenomenal parents and their kids are great.  We walked around the apple farm and used the various space and of course they got a chance to pick some apples.  After the shoot, we headed to a nearby park where the kids (and parents) got to have some fun.  I really enjoyed this shoot and really want to thank my friends for setting this up with me.  I appreciate the support and can’t wait to hang over the holidays.

Leon Chai
