“Love Corporate” I say…. J&J Job Fair Event

I started out in “Corporate” 14 years ago…. (holy smoly.. talk about sounding old) and after a few years, I left the Home Depot head office…I changed directions on my path to entrepreneur type roles that lead into what I do now.  For those that know me well… I always say “love corporate”… especially when friends of mine complain about work etc… not saying the grass is not greener on the other side…but I do respect the well oiled machine of a large organization.  Johnson & Johnson is one example of a well oiled machine.

A few weeks back I was commissioned to shoot an internal J&J event that focused on succession planning within their finance department.  Surprisingly there was a ton of creative aspects to this event, as each department within the finance team had to come up with a catchy way to promote and educate the attendees.  When I talk about creative… these guys where SUPER CREATIVE… from replicating and building a “who wants to be a millionaire set” to a theater environment and a film production  that was put together in weeks.   I will never mock a finance person (or CA, since tons of my friends are CA’s) again for not understanding my creative industry since they totally rocked the show that day.

I’m glad to see J&J investing time and effort to promote succession planning within their organization – as they clearly value their people.

I’ll say it again… “Love Corporate”

Thanks, Leon

Learn to make Sushi and help Japan.

I can’t even image how the situation is right now in Japan with the post earthquake and the Tsunami and all the aftermath. In times like this every little donation helps especially if we each contribute it can help bring relief faster. Liberty Noodle a restaurant in the heart of Liberty Village, Toronto decided to hold an event 2 weeks back. It was an opportunity to have master sushi chef teach people about Sushi and how to make Sushi. The best part about it was that the proceeds went to help Japan. Gi and I where asked to document the jam packed event– great to see. Not only do you get to take an awesome class but you also can perform an act of kindness, get a little and give a little. Check out their website (www.libertynoodle.com) as I know they are holding another course this Saturday – fun times for a date… fun times in general. Gi and I would totally attend this time around, but its wedding season =) Below are some images from the event and the delicious end results.

Thanks,

Leon

Sitara Hewitt Interview

First and foremost, I must thank Meera Solanki for this shoot and also want to proudly promote her magazine which is due to launch in 2010 – check out Fusia.ca! To quote – Fusia brings three core elements together: female, fusion and Asia.

Meeting Sitara Hewitt is such honor and the fact that “Little Mosque on the Prairie” airs in 60 countries worldwide, makes me proud to be Canadian.  My initial thoughts when I first met her, was that she was pregnant and absolutely gorgeous. She is one of the girls that you would never guess was pregnant for the exception of her belly. And while Meera was interviewing her, you can soon tell why she looks the way she does as her and her husband live and practice such a healthy lifestyle… extremely motivating indeed.

The shoot was awesome and being a photographer for Fusia Magazine, I look forward to upcoming shoots and meeting Sitara again to do her cover shot.  Wishing you all the best with the upcoming baby!

Sincerely, Leon Chai

91 Day Young!

I got an email from a friend of mine asking would I be interested in documenting a 91st birthday event for their grandmother.  How exciting was the first thing that came to mind and also what a landmark occasion. This would be would be an absolute honor was my response.  On this day, meeting their Grandmother, I can honestly say I have never met someone with such positive and great…something that I didn’t expect at all.  I hope when I reach that age I’ll continue to have the energy and positive attitude like her.  Thank you Jeanne and Chi-Yan for having me document this landmark occasion.

Your Friend, Leon Chai
