A very happy 65th birthday

There are so many aspects about this event that’s amazing aside from the actual event itself.

If you think about it, there are very few occasions for a son or daughter to publicly honour their parents.  What’s great about this event is that their family and friends got to share their sentiments about the guest of honour in front of everyone that know him best.

There was so much hard work and coordination that went into making this surprise event so special.   I could only imagine how hard it was to coordinate everyone (all over the world) but it was a win for me since I got to see my friend Mark that flew in from HK for his father’s event.  The schedule for the night was jam packed with speeches, dance performances and my personal fav… my friend’s daughters on the stage singing – holy insanely cute talented stuff batman.

To my friends Gina & Paul, thanks so much for asking me to document this special event for your family – I really appreciate it guys.  I’m happy I made official family photographer status…hehe. See you at the next event =)

Our Baby Girl’s First Birthday, Ontario Science Centre Birthday Party

Soo…I never expected to be one of those mom’s that went crazy over a birthday….ummm…well maybe a little :p…Our baby girl has officially turned one today and we decided to celebrate this past weekend with our friends and family.   We have so many great friends and family we wanted to make sure we could see them all.  The perfect place for us was the Science Centre.   It was located mid-town, a place where Alexis goes to visit almost every other week, and there is tons of fun stuff for people to do.

Yes, I know, this party is more for us than her since she is only 1.  But we captured the pictures so hopefully she can remember them all since it will be the last big bang of a party she will have till she is 16.   The next party will be just be for the kids.

The theme of this party was Oh the Places You’ll Go!  The reason – I love this book and it is the book I read to her since she was born.   I also hope she gets to travel and experience so many more things in her life.

With the help of some awesome friends and family, we were able to pull this party off from a perfect sweet table made from love.  Cakes galore from Crystal included cupcakes, a smash cake, and a three tier cake.  Cookies, rice crispie squares, and pom pom balls from Marilyn just highlighted theme.   Not to forget the running around, cutting, gluing and late nights from Cousin J and Ms. Linh.   We also cannot forget Rovey Catering super team of Roger and Harvey – with the help of Miranda that made sure all our guests were fed.   They even made sure we had a noodle station – I mean anyone who knows me that soup and noodles are key staples in my diet J.  Last but not least is a key member of the Leon Chai Photography team, Mr. Kevin Chan who set up the photobooth.  We are lucky to have you not only as a friend but a partner in crime when it comes to shoots of all kinds – including our daughter.

This 3 hr party went by like a blur because we got a chance to see a lot of people we haven’t seen in a while.  I hope to get to see all of you more often at occasions beyond these crazy parties.   When I look back at the pictures, I know how lucky we are to have such fantastic people who have crossed our path in life.   I also know how lucky Alexis will be to grow up with so many friends in her life!  Thank you for all the love you have given to both us and our little girl.   This family thanks god everyday for the life we have been given.

This little family sends our love back to all of you.

Happy First Birthday Baby E! Seoul house birthday

It has been such a fun couple weeks with capturing all the milestone birthdays for our clients / friends.  For this shoot, I got introduced to this sweet family from our mutual friend Gina (thanks so much for the warm intro).  When I got to the Seoul house where they held E’s party, the place was all decked out... everything looked amazing.  The first thing I thought to myself when I met the birthday boy was… this dude has the best hair!  I say this with a little envy as I’ve been trying to grow out my hair forever now… Gi is not a fan..

I love the fact that the parents kept the tradition going as they all wore the Korean outfits and played the game where they their son chose his destiny.  One thing I personally appreciated for obvious reasons was all the pics they captured of their son growing up.  I found out after this event that E’s Dad is quite the photographer… which is super awesome in my books.

I want to sincerely thank my new friends J&M for having me capture this special occasion. M, keep up the amazing work in documenting your family… I really enjoy seeing all of your posts dude.  Here are just a few pics from the day.

K’s First Birthday

We have been really busy with non-stop editing, meetings and shoots these past few weeks.  As always, I am insanely thankful and wouldn’t want it any other way.  During the mix of everything, I got to photograph some special first birthday events too. Since our daughter will be turning one soon, I’ve been soaking in all the ideas for her party.

I was happy to be contacted by my friend M who asked me to capture her daughter’s first birthday party. This was awesome since the last time I saw their daughter K was when we did her newborn pics… and now she is 1…crazy how time flies. On the day of their shoot, we met at their house first and captured some shots of family getting K ready for the party. It’s sweet that Mom and Dad had K’s outfit all prepared out and ready.  The party was right around the corner at  Kidnasium.  This was a fun spot for the kids as there were tons of things to run and jump on.  What was super sweet was the fact K parents insisted our daughter come and join the fun… which was such a win win for me as nothing beats having my 2 girls within eye sight as I work.

The theme of the party was Frozen and my friends at J’Adore Sweet made this gorgeous cake that fit the theme perfectly.  I want to sincerely thank my friend M&C for the continued support and having me capture their daughter’s first birthday. Great seeing the whole family. Here are just a few pics from the event.  Thanks,

My little buddy turned one.

I love this little guy and I was thrilled that his parents asked me to capture his first birthday last month. Gi and I were lucky to have spent a lot of time with Little N and his parents ever since he was born. So seeing him turn one for us was extra special.

The theme of the party was “wheels on the bus” and the parents nailed it. N’s Aunty’s and mom even made a cardboard bus for all of N’s friends to play with and it rocked! The day of the party it seemed like the kids were everywhere and even out numbered the adults... but it was all good since there were a ton of things to do from the crafting station, bouncy castle to my man Kevin Chan rocking his photo booth set up with props to match the theme. The parents also got little N a traditional Korean outfit where he then had to choose his destiny. The party ended cutting his wheels on the bus cake.

As the parents saved the topper.. . we headed over to little N’s the next day and busted out a smake cake session =) Love you lots guys.

Happy 1st birthday L!

I totally dig the Korean culture. From their delicious food (Mmm.. pork bone soup) down to all the unique traditions. Heck, even their greeting, ie, bowing makes the most sense to me, no worries about a handshake and passing over germs I say. But seriously, given that I have had the chance to capture a lot of their cultural aspects over the years, I think it’s pretty cool. So it’s great to see the younger gen parents like Gina and Paul continue to carry on these traditions for their family.

When Gina first contacted us in late fall last year to set up a family lifestyle session, if I could remember correctly, the weather didn’t cooperate and she decided to save the shoot for 2014, for her daughter’s first birthday. So on the day of the shoot, the event was at Seoul House and everything was set up perfectly. I was surprised to see a handful of familiar faces at this party, which are the same people that recommended me – many thanks guys. When I finally met Gina and Paul in person they where super nice and their daughters were totally adorable. For this party, they had all the traditional games, outfits, and desserts to celebrate their youngest daughter’s first birthday. They also had a cake set up for their eldest daughter K, as I assume their birthdates are close together.

After the food we stepped outside for some quick pics underneath the overhang as it was about to rain.
To Gina and Paul, thanks so much guys for having me capture this important milestone for your family, you guys rock. Here are some pics from the day.
