Carlton and Karen and baby S.

I have known Carlton since I was 17 so it was definitely a very new light I was seeing him when we did this shoot.  Carlton the dad, what a sight to see.   It was a very different experience then back in our university/partying days =) .  But I must say parenthood suits you!  But not as much as Karen!  Karen, who had just had a baby looked refreshed and right back into shape.  She is definitely one of those women that everyone is jealous of because she looked so great so quickly after the birth of little S.

As in every baby shoot, I tend only to be a shooter but also work as a prop so that every child is adequately supported in all the images.  So little S definitely gave me a great workout!  Little S had her finicky moments but lucky enough I did find little her sweet spot, she accepted my finger as her sucker =)  I take this as a compliment since Karen told me that S is picky about who she is willing to give this privilege to.    Thanks for having us over guys and we hope you guys like the pics!

Feels right at home. Christina & Dan Married // Vancouver

Christina and Dan’s wedding felt right at home for me even though it was out in Vancouver.   It’s weddings like theirs that I live for.  Familiar faces everywhere and spending the day with close friends in a city I love. Vancouver for me was probably one of the cities aside from Chicago that Gi and I travel too at least one a year since we started dating as we have close friends over there.   But for this week it meant even more as we got to be a part of this wedding, since Christina was a special part of ours – marrying us on our wedding day.

I landed in Vancouver early in the week to scout out the locations and to get a visual feel of things so when Gi came, we could spend more time playing =)

Both Christina and Dan got ready in separate rooms in the Executive Hotel which worked out well as Gi and I jumped back and forth between rooms.  The weather was perfect throughout the whole day and the evening celebrations went off without a hitch.  One thing I have to mention that you will see in the pics (I’ll probably do another entry on their vintage photobooth) was the props and set design on their vintage booth theme.  Elizabeth, if you’re reading this… you my friend have some serious talent and attention for detail.  I bow to your creativity sister!

I want to thank our lodging services of Helen and Enoch for taking us in =)  I don’t see you guys enough – thanks for everything.  Brendan and Ya-Hsun Hopwood for their awesome talent in hair and make up.  Christina and Dan, what can I say but thank you with love.  Here are a few pics to bring back some memories from your awesome day.

Love, Leon

Vancouver!!!....One of the first cities that Leon and I went to together so it is definitely a favourite of ours.  What was great about this trip was that we got to photograph a couple that means so much to us.  You see, the bride was not only a great friend but also the person who married Leon and I.  You see we were lucky enough to have someone we knew commit our union and be a part of one of the most important moments in our life.  We are honoured to be able to return that favour and document one of the most important moments in Christina and Dan’s life.

The wedding was so representative of this couple who are both pastors as the ceremony was held at their home church.   You could feel the love and family throughout the day as everyone who was a part of the union was a friend.   All the elements of the wedding were so personal as no one was a vendor, we were all friends who respected these two so much.

Love you guys both!

Sundae and Stephen’s Wedding // Aurora

As some of you know I am an accountant and naturally I have an affinity to other accountants.   So this wedding was right in my comfort zone – geeky I know…but so true.   I started off the morning at Stephen’s best man’s house where the boys were getting ready and I was greeted by two large surprises.   One a Bentley Super Sport – sweet!!! And Two, one of the largest dogs I had ever seen.   Both beautiful in their own ways =).

One of the interesting parts of being an accountant is that we understand what each other have gone through when we chose this career.   You could see the understanding and love between Sundae and Stephen but the most interesting part was that Stephen’s parents have a similar romantic story.  Both these couples were developed at E&Y and as Stephen’s mom noted “the E&Y matchmaking service is still going strong”.

Congratulations to my fellow accountant’s =)

Gi

Stephen and Sundae are one of the kindest and nicest couple.  It has been great getting to know them throughout the year leading up to the big day.   When I walked in the house where Sundae was getting ready, it was awesome being cheerfully greeted by Stephen’s family.  I even got a great surprise when I saw Patricia doing Sundae’s make up as we got to work together in Hawaii a few months back.   You know that saying something old and something new for the wedding day… these two hands down win the award for the best items.   As Gi mentioned, Stephen and his best man showed up in a Bentley Supersports and Sundae rode in a Vintage Rolls Royce. Serious.

Their ceremony was both bright and beautiful with the wonderful weather and the love of this couple.  Another awesome surprise was seeing Pastor Pete who also joined us in Hawaii.  The reception went perfectly.  Kudos to the girls in the bridal party, you guys ROCKED dance floor with their surprise dance.    Before we visually story tell their day, I want to thank Jason Kuo for the giving us this warm intro from the get go (continued thanks for your support brother) and sincerest thanks to both Stephen and Sundae for having us on your awesome day.   Welcome back guys =)

The Day After //Farica & Andrew // Hawaii

We’re in full blown post processing mode, aka music pumping in the studio all day and headphones on at night to keep us in the zone.  We’re pretty excited to meet up with our clients soon, as we’re almost done processing various wedding shoots.

As we’re going through each pic, we wanted to showcase a few shots from our after shoot session from Farica and Andrew’s wedding because; a) we miss you guys and b) we miss our time in Hawaii. Farica and Andrew, we hope this brings back some good memories from that awesome week that seems so long ago.  Here are just a few of our favorites and see you guys in a few weeks!

Much love, Leon & Gi

Family, Friends and Milestone Year.

We’ve been having a blast this year documenting so many amazing events and moments, which took Gi and I to many places around the world.  So, so thankful we are.   I’m back to blogging more frequently now as I have some serious catching up to do.

OK, I think this family is awesome.  Before I get into that… a lot of our business comes in the form of being gifted.  And I know this is going to come off super bias, but the gift of photography and capturing moments at that particular time is one of the best gifts… second to that is an Aston Martin One 77… very close second =)

So, earlier this year, Y contacted me and had this idea of setting up a fun photo session for her daughter as she was hitting her sweet 16!  She wanted to keep this as a surprise for J as part of her b-day celebration. When she nailed down a date, I arrived before her party started and we had some fun just capturing some pics of J and her family / cousins and close friends. People that mean the most to her. Although, Y and her husband insisted that I keep the cameras off them… I figured we had to snap a few to include the cool parents.  The shoot was fun for me… as J, her friends and fam love the camera.  I think the most important part was that everyone recognized that it’s great to have pics all together… and one day they’ll look back and have images that visually story tell that point in their life.  Y, thank you for opening your home to me and thinking of this awesome gift for your daughter and of course, Happy sweet 16th J!

Michelle & Allen Married!!! // Toronto Wedding

If I could summarize both Michelle and Allen in two words… it would be good peoples.  And I can’t express this more, I was lucky enough to get to know them throughout the year leading up to their wedding and these two… such good peoples.  I know I mentioned this before on the posting of their lifestyle session, but I really can’t express how much respect I have for their careers as nurses.  And as the saying goes, birds of a feather stick together and their wedding saw how everyone around them were just such good people.   Their wedding was a longer commission but it felt like nothing as Gi and I had a blast being surrounded by good people, making it that much better.

I was stoked to see “doors games” on their itinerary as Gi and I have not documented this in a while and it’s always fun.  So the morning started off with Gi capturing Allen and his groomsmen while I started off with Michelle and the girls getting ready.    I got to give kudos to Michelle for being the most hands on Bride.  I mean she was tying flowers throughout the morning.  Also.. check out the hangers…. Awesomeness.  When the guys arrived, Gi and I swapped roles and she stayed with Michelle and the girls while I caught the fun outside watching the dudes do the traditional door games.  The weather could not have been better as their ceremony was outdoors.  All the details in this wedding were great, as the rest of the night was a blast with great speeches and fun games.

Before I let our pics visually story tell their day, I want to thank a bunch of people.  My friend Gary for referring me to this awesome couple.   The cinematography team from Honey and Dear : www.honeyanddear.com (Andrew / Emily and Katie) such a talented and great team to work with, solid SDE guys.  My main pair of eyes, Gi who I depend on greatly.   Last but not least, Michelle and Allen.  You guys are the best and make a perfect couple. Thank you both so much for having us be a part of your awesome day.  Here are some initial pics to bring back some memories as we are processing the rest.  Enjoy!

Your Friend, Leon
